Ulrich Schumann
As an artist, I feel particularly touched by the beauty of natural forms. This is the starting point for my inner relationship with ceramics. Like a natural phenomenon, the size of my ceramics should symbolise independence and the experience of silent elemental force. The net-like or diamond-like structured surfaces should express the inner tension of the form and tell of the process of creation of the sculpture or a vessel. This is achieved through an inlay technique in which all surfaces and decorations are already applied to the plastic stoneware mass and, like a dress, trace all the curves and movements of the form in the shaping process.
